Consider your car lucky, Canada’s most famous rural jaywalkers are mooses! Collisions are pretty frequent and are often lethal to people in the car.

Absolutely! (Poor things; they just taste so good.) My mom used to aim for them when we drove gravel roads. I remember being with her more than once when she clipped one, stopped the car, jumped out, wrung its neck, and voila! dinner. Now that’s a mad skill!

I like pheasant, too, but it’s kind of stringy. My dad hunted them with a shotgun instead of a car, so we had to be careful not to bite into the pellets.

In my part of Texas I’ve seen roadrunners, armadillos, snakes, possums, feral cats, dogs, foxes, jackrabbits, an emu, and even a lone coyote all meandering about the roads at various times of day.

Are you from Canada? If so, we have a bunch of your geese down here in Virginia any time you want to come and get them!
