    The lottery is “A tax on the stupid.”

    And they line up to pay it. It’s amazing.

    I don’t know about other states, but the statistics here in Oregon are interesting. It’s not the lottery that attracts the problem gamblers and the biggest profit, it’s the video poker machines and such. Since I never see the things, I was surprised.

    I used to work part time at a gas station in what could be considered the poorer area of town. Lottery officials used to remark how the store’s lottery sales were the highest in town.

    Gambling should be legal and heavily regulated with real hard time consequences for violations.

    All that means rich people either gamble less so they need less lines or that there were so few rich they did not need the lines.

    Yes it is sad even wrong but how is anyone person responsible.

    Gore Bane, avarner: It is a tax on desperation. As a result, the wealthy tax-dodgers who own the legislatures have a vested interest in maintaining a high level of desperation.
