The last place I would want to be on Thanksgiving (or the day after) is at a mall.
If more people boycott, then these people won’t have to work those days.

I hope these stores fail. No one should go shopping on thanksgiving, stay home with your family.

The last thing we need is more laws or more uninformed people voting based on what some Hollywood has been tells them to do.
If you value family time don’t go out on Thanksgiving to shop. Some family members like to get out of the house and shop together. I hate how the media blows this topic up claiming they care about family so much. If people didn’t come out in droves to shop, the stores wouldn’t open.

Worked retail for 11 years, this will be the first year I’m not working black friday (or Thanksgiving). I will be sleeping late, playing with my puppies and spending quality time with Rocksmith…

In the end, the real savings are to be had well after black Friday!

I do not shop on holidays. I know that the only reason those stores are open is that they make money. My feeling is that, if we all stayed home on holidays, the stores would stop making money (don’t worry, they can sell the same thing the next day….) and would close on holidays, and everyone could spend time doing what they want to do.

I’m not foolish enough to believe that enough people will think like me, but I live my principles.

You must have known an Orthodox Jew. They take the Sabbath seriously: no work can be done. This included answering the phone, turning on a light, and lighting a fire (which equals turning the stove on). Many of them have arrangements with a local non-Jew who will turn on the stove/oven for them, and perform other items of “work” from Friday sundown to Saturday sundown.

As payback, many of these same Jews worked for their Christian friends on Christian holidays (or days immediately before or after) so that their families would not have to choose between religion and jobs.

Although it’s probably much ado about nothing, it’s a good example of a system of mutual respect, which just don’t happen much any more anywhere.

God that’s the truth, we should have a day where everybody is off at the same time. For nothing else then just the common experiences a community needs. Without it, in time, no one cares about anyone else then you got dudes wearing pants around their behind, sixty two tatoos, face piercings, and no community spirit to bring us together.

Why the hell did it take this “timeless” being 6 days to create?

Well, for once I’m somewhat in agreement with you- though much of it is from fear that I’d be trampled by imbeciles who value saving a few bucks over the safety of their fellow human beings.

One doesn’t need religious based laws. If people didn’t patronize such places they wouldn’t be open in the first place.
