Yes, who needs women’s rights? Why shouldn’t a government change the constitution to impose religious fundamentalism? And if the people object, it’s the army’s job to prop up the regime, not to help peacefully try new elections!

Signe doesn’t want to deviate from her simplistic agenda. They acted against an elected person, and that is WRONG and the military are the BAD guys.

WE need the aid here in the US. The only people the aid goes to now are the jerks at the top of those countries who line their pockets at the expense of their own people and US taxpayers.

You will be surprised to know that this DOES deviate from my simplistic agenda! I would be in jail under a government run unchecked by the Muslim Brotherhood or their more radical counterparts elsewhere. Ive been picketed and denounced by angry Muslim readers for numerous cartoons on their treatment of women and dissenters. Still, if we believe in democratic elections, we’ve got to grapple with the fact that this one has gone haywire. Signe

I am confused. How is Signe wrong here? The President was elected by the people. I don’t remember there being any concern about the elections not being fair an open. So the President was from a group we didn’t like, so what, it’s their country and they need to be allowed to direct their won destiny. But now the people don’t like him, too bad you elected him. So the people are angry, the military goes in, under the guise of upholding the people’s will and deposes a democratically elected President. I think that would be called a “military coup” if we liked the president and the ideology he hailed from. So now on to panel 3. We (or at least our military industrial complex and those who stand to profit from continuing aid) are desperate to continue funneling money into a sand hole so we are trying hard to find some way to justify violating our own laws and call this coup something, anything else that will allow a few interested parties to continue to suck off the teats of foreign aid.
    .
Do you get it now? Or do you think that, to put it in perspective here at home, that President Obama was democratically elected but some people don’t like him. So if they were loud enough our military should remove him from the White House? Is that what you are saying?
    .
Signe is spot on here. She points out what happened, how it is what it is but certain factions our government want to redefine it so our very own laws don’t bind their (the factions of our government) hands.

The issue is that all these countries know the money spout will just keep on giving. Cutting off a few countries and cutting aid in half to a few more will cost less and give us a lot more leverage.

Ok so what is your solution sounds to me between your two points between me and swilkins, your own opinions have forced you into inaction and inaction solves very little. Neither did I say cut off all the funding, it is cheaper than a war, but just keep handing it out to thugs who are heads of state, in itself is inaction.

That is where the Left loses to the Right, we honestly have more options than the you. As for your 21 Century sensibilities such values were created in a pop culture and pop culture can take it away when the debt causes a lot of people to have empty stomachs, how important will your sensibilities be then.

The military have been running things behind-the-scenes since Egypt stopped being a British protectorate.
    -
The USA doesn’t want to lose Egypt and they really don’t care who is in charge just so they are beholding to the US and won’t threaten Israel.

None recently because they aren’t yet ruling the country. But do not think they wouldn’t—they would and much more besides. The Bible and Christianity is against democracy and republicanism.

Agree with Night! If the left loses to the right, why are the Repubs opposed to whichever policy Obama tries to use? Egypt? It’s a coup! Syria, Go in NOW!!!. Libya, Go in NOWWW! Oh, you want to go in? NOOO!!!

I am wholly against intervention. We have our own problems to iron out first. Usually the “help” the USA gives somehow goes to what many of us would call the “wrong” people.
    -
I am all for independent groups intervening but just so long as they get no help from our govt in any way.
