    Off-duty officer stops gunman in theatre in Mid-December 2012….the media didn’t really pick up on this one because they have an agenda…

    On duty, and off duty police officers have stopped many criminals, in the act of offenses. These cases don’t make big news, just like 99.9% of homicides don’t get picked up beyond local “media outlets”.

    Officers have also been murdered while armed, on occasion with blunt weapons (rarely), edged weapons, rifles, shotguns, motor vehicles, but mostly with pistols and revolvers in the hands of criminals, not “nuts”.

    And then there is the story of David Keene, son of the President of the NRA. History of mental problems, convicted for shooting at a man during a “road rage” incident in 2002. He’s due out on the street any day now. Think his Dad will help him get his gun rights back?

    Let’s not forget the soccer mom in Lebanon, PA who loved to openly carry at her kids’ games. She was shot dead by her husband.

    Is this an updated version of “Those who live by the sword shall perish by the sword”?

    Since the NRA thinks it’s such a good idea to have armed guards in schools, and since they estimate it will cost $800-1,000 per person for training and licensing, and since most school districts, and this country, are in financial straits, why don’t THEY tell their members to PONY UP? It only cost the NRA $1 million for that “independent” study they rolled out!

    @Ms. Ima

    So, bolster the ATF, enforce existing gun laws, and have universal background checks?

    We had an incident three weeks ago where the armed guard at a local school accidentally discharged his weapon in the school hallway while kids were between classes. Luckily, nobody was hurt.

    Absolutely nobody should be armed.
    There should be no firearms at all.

    Without firearms, how does one defend oneself against a more powerful attacker, especially one armed with a blade or other weapon? Firearms exist, and criminals will always have them. You would make victims of us all.

    @Tigger

    Tigger says, “No, because he is a convicted felon”. What part of “shall not be infringed” don’t you understand?

    Armored soldiers, alert and on patrol, with loaded, ready-to-shoot automatic weapons get killed by guns.

    Reagan was surrounded by Secret Service agents when he was shot.

    No one is safe when guns are present. Even the shooter.

    That would be for the minimum additional training just to work in schools. Apparently, they would already have gone through the same required training that police go through.
    This from an interview last night with former Congressman, Asa Hutchinson who put the NRA report together.

    Thankfully there’s other sources than your biased media.

    @TheTrustedMechanic

    There is a difference between every media outlet leading with a story to push an agenda, and a few outlets reporting a story (usually back page) of someone with a gun stopping an incident of mass violence.
