In the 50s, chickens were a staple of every family farm,
Now, thanks to the do-gooders, protected hawks will wipe out the flock unless kept in fenced in area. Fencing includes over the TOP of the pen.
Those baby chicks were so cute and fluffy!

Once, dad was clearing out a patch of weeds with a tractor pulled brush cutter. Suddenly, a clump of feathers came out the back! Stopped, and found that a chicken had decided to nest in the weeds! Fortunately, no wheels had gone over the nest. Eggs were gathered and put under another hen in the hen-house and about a week later, fluffy little chicks.

Most chicken and eggs come from factory farms today.
Unfortunately this leads to abuses, such as when thousands of chickens were abandonded in an Iowa operation recently when it shut down.
