Godzilla is probably not your best barbecue guest. But his visit should flatten whatever of the neighborhood the Fifty-Foot Woman didn’t, and flame-broil the neighbors, to boot!

Always have a back-up plan in case the fire goes out.

Just remember that the USA did it first with “Beast From 20,000 Fathoms” (1953) based upon a Ray Bradbury short story called “Fog Horn” and adapted and done by Ray Harryhausen. It influenced the makers of “Gojira.”

Is there anyone left in that area?

One wonders how the real estate people sell anything there.

Agent: “And in this neighborhood, we have a number of fixer-uppers.”

    Buyer: “What happened? A tornado?”

Agent: “The locals have some peculiar customs, but most of them are OK”

Buyer: “why isn’t anyone else around here?”

Agent: “Oh, they mostly stay indoors around here. They are not sun lovers.”

Buyer: “how much you asking for this”

    Agent: “$10,000”

Buyer: “why so cheap? What’s wrong with the house?”

Agent: “Nothing’s wrong with this house.”

Buyer: “What aren’t you telling me?”

Ours were better. The “stop-action animation” creatures were always more interesting than “the guy in the rubber suit” monsters (which ALWAYS looked like a guy in a rubber suit).

Even so to me the original Godzilla was the best, really scary and had great mood lighting. Interestingly for the designs of the CGI monsters in “Pacific Rim” they were designed around the idea of a man in a suit. Still they look great as does the whole film.

The Japanese monster movies are a unique genre; something the Japanese film makers do better than anyone. I can’t say I haven’t enjoyed watching them (tho’ I must admit that I’ve liked them best when viewing them on Mystery Science Theater 3000, for my tendency was always to poke fun at them).
I think there is room in the world of cinema for all efforts, and if you can define a genre you’ve accomplished a lot (same with art and writing and music, etc.).
