    Everyone who works pays into Social Security and Medicare!
    It doesn’t add a dime to the debt. and besides,
    Obama Promised! Not to mess with Social Security.
    Why do so many people vote for leaders who have their minds made up to protect the wealthy. So many big Corporations owe taxes, just like the rest of us??
    People are so afraid that a few people will get help who don’t deserve it, when in reality there are so many people who don’t even get enough to eat!
    The government doesn’t supply hearing aides to those that need them. The government doess never paid for abortions! There are too many LIES about free stuff that is non-existant!

    I regret that I have to say this all again:

    Restore the 75% tax rates on the wealthy from the 1960’s.
    Restore the Glass Steagall act with sharp teeth.
    Restore the tax on stock transactions.
    Haul the thieves of wall street into court to be tried for their massive deliberate financial crimes.
    Send cheney/shrub/rumsfeld to the world court to be tried for their massive deliberate war crimes that cost many thousands of US and Iraqi lives and cost trillions of dollars.

    The cartoon shows my own perception. Mr. Obama in the middle reaching out harder to the right than to the left.
    Everyone will see it in from their own slant.
    The events in Boston yesterday should serve to remind us that when disaster happens, we are not Democrat or Republican, we’re Americans and we’re neighbors.
    My prayers and thoughts are with those who were harmed or had loved ones who were harmed. My niece had walked past the site of the first explosion one hour earlier.
    Gratefully,
    C.

    The Republicans are the party of NO when it comes to tax hikes, but the party of HELL YES when it comes to helping others or stabilizing our infrastructure. Except for the pipeline for overseas shipping of Canadian tar sands oil. And the balance of the “tax hikes” were BUSH’S tax cuts that were supposed to expire. Enough already. Start governing, not obstructing!

    @Wabbit

    As David Brooks of the New York Times points out (repeatedly), people get back MORE than they paid in. Work it out, and it amounts to less than a 5% interest rate, but as Aristotle points out, any interest is immoral.

    And these are payroll taxes, not investments. All taxes are collected by the nobility from the rabble for the benefit of the nobility. It is ridiculous that the lazy rabble expect the hard-working nobility to return any of that money so they can eat and get medical care after they become elderly hypochondriacs.

    Fortunately, global warming is a farce: it still gets below freezing every winter (in most of the US), so there are still ice floes, which is what a decent society does with its elderly who are too old and sick to be productive. (Of course, this does NOT apply to the members of the nobility, who have worked hard so that they can afford to pay for all their own medical care, food, mansions, servants, & etc.)

    “Send cheney/shrub/rumsfeld to the world court….”

    I’m guessing you actually mean the International Criminal Court. The World Court, formally known as the International Court of Justice, adjudicates disputes between States and is not involved in criminal proceedings.

    @Respectful Troll

    I see it a little differently, C. I see it as the Democrats and Obama as being in agreement and too far to the left. I also see the Republicans pouting because Obama hasn’t reached far enough to the right of the right. Fervent ideologues have displaced moderate pragmatists in offering solutions to problems and ideologues rarely offer workable solutions to anything.

    Totally respect that Mike. My Nine Issues upon which I base my votes were the reason I voted FOR Mr. Obama in 2008. They became the reasons I voted AGAINST Mr. Romney in 2012. Mr. Obama moved too far to the right for me in respect to my issues, so I was unable to vote FOR him that time. But as I said in my comment, that’s my perception.
    ^
    Would love to know what your nine issues are. You are one of the best commentators when it comes to research and citations. You raise the level of the debate and set a very good example of a moderate. My “public” email is sanesaint@hotmail.com It’s been good for carrying on the discussion outside of the “sandbox”.
    Thank you, Mike.
    Sincerely Respectful,
    C.

    Give it up. Cheney, Bush and Rumsfeld did not commit warcrimes. You are like most ignorant liberals, chanting the propoganda without knowing what constitutes a war crime. The Taliban and Al-Queda fall under the heading or war criminals.
