    Wow, I did not see this coming. I was pretty much speechless last night other than voicing my concern over this country. When a man with hair as Presidential as mine can’t be President, this country is heading in the wrong direction.

    I suppose I could have exhorted my fellow Republicans to concentrate on what used to be good about us:

    Real fiscal discipline, that doesn’t think you can cut the deficit, while cutting taxes and increasing military spending.

    The belief that a competent and efficient government is the best government. Even liberals like a government that does more with our tax dollars. The notion that government is useless at best, has led my party to appoint cronies and hacks, while turning over authority given to us by the People, to corporations and lobbyists.

    Giving up the assumption that all taxes are bad. The first sign of a great nation in decline is when it’s wealthiest citizens refuse to pay taxes. Taxes must come from those able to pay them. This is simple logic that is beyond the grasp of many of my fellow Republicans.

    Backing rights for all citizens. The nonsense about our “Judeo-Christian” values being under attack, just divides and causes hate. We’lll attract a lot more voters if we embrace tolerance and grant the same rights to people who live a little differently than we do. The party of Lincoln was built around this idea.

    Bring back the tax rates on the megarich that were in effect during the 1950’s and 1960’s.
    Restore the Glass Steagall act.
    Downsize the pentagon.
    Haul the thieves of wall street into court to be tried for their financial crimes.
    Send cheney/shrub/rumsfeld and their cronies to the world court to be tried for their war crimes.

    Poor Mitt. Lost the state he was born in, lost the state he was governor of, and lost the states he has homes in. Just couldn’t catch a break. And Sketch Romney, we need many more Republicans like you.

    @Uncle Joe

    Now if the REAL Romoney had actually believed this, and stuck to his guns, rather then being a weather vane, and letting himself be pushed around by the RNC bosses, and Karl Rove, and the like, he might have had a chance, and might have even gotten a lot of Democratic support.
    Sadly, it’s too late for him now.

    If the REAL Romney had believed that,and said that, he never would have gotten the nomination to begin with.

    Once Upon a Time, many years ago, there actually WAS a “Grand Old Party”. It was the political home of such as Lincoln, Margaret Chase Smith, Robert Taft, Thurgood Marshal, Everett Dirkson, Ralph L. Carr, and many other Statesmen and women of character and principle, who were genuinely dedicated to the principles of that “. . . government OF the people, BY the people, and FOR the people . . .”, that was the focus of it’s first great President.

    Then came an " . . . unindicted CRIMINALl co-conspirator", and a pack of sleazebags headed by a couple of “German Shepherds”, as they were called; and the Once Upon aTtime Grand Old Party began its downhill slide to its position of today; that being nothing more than the political base for the Nation’s kooks, klutzes, kranks, superstitiously ignorant and/or arrogantly stubbornly stupid (or both), and a host of other nuts, loose screws, and refugees from the cukoo’s nest, or even the slammer; with its focus now fixed upon greed, reaction, regressiveness, racism, and anything BUT, the PEOPLE – especially people of any “color” other than “white”, of Latin ethnic orign, women, the poor, the working force that is the backbone of America, and those for whom the Constitution, and the guarantees of Civil Rights, not the nutty brayings of Jackasses-in-the-pulpits, still forms the basis for their own political positions.

    History mentions a very much similar political claque, known as the Whigs, back in the middle of the 19th Century. As that claque has vanished from the American scene, so too will the Republican Party of today. And, GOOD RIDDANCE!
