    Twenty-nine hundred takes must be tiresome. As for hanging ten for about four hours and 41 miles,… uh… I’m speechless; no comment.

    He surfed 41 miles on the Panama Canal? This is the man made waterway connecting the Pacific to the Atlantic in the country of Panama? Wow, I never realized it was 41 miles long. Better yet, I never realized there was a 41 mile stretch that did not have a lock to raise and lower the water level. That is some surfing.

    I find that Jackie Chan statement difficult to believe.

    Even if it took only 15 minutes for each complete take start to finish, that’s 30 days of continuous 24 hour a day shooting without sleep, food, or pee breaks. Not likely.

    @Alexikakos

    It wouldn’t necessarily be continuous. It was likely broken up over several days.
    I think if I was Jackie Chan, I’d have kicked the director after about the hundredth take.

    The Jackie Chan movie is mentioned on the IMDb site for as holding a Guiness Record for largest number of takes. It doesn’t mention how many.

    The near-death-experience thing is probably able to be faked. In essence I mean the claim that the experience occurred, not the actual closeness to death.

    @Bruno Zeigerts

    That is what I was trying to illustrate.

    If everybody could live that long, there would be a minimum of 30 days of shooting, and at one take per day 2,900 days or 7 years 345 days of shooting.

    As I said, not likely.

    Canal was probably down for maintenance.

    @Bruno Zeigerts

    Jackie Chan directs his own movies.

    He’d be kicking himself, then! :-)
    And that fight scene was darn near the only one in the movie! Except for it, the movie was quite boring. Nowhere near one of his best.

    The Panama Canal (Spanish: Canal de Panamá) is a 77.1-kilometre (48 mi) ship canal in Panama that connects the Atlantic Ocean (via the Caribbean Sea) to the Pacific Ocean.
    It is only 48 miles long and there are several locks and a lake in it. Therefore I fail to see how surfing 41 miles in it is possible.

    Gary Saavedra has entered the Guinness Book of World Records. The surfer from Panama surfed for three hours and 55 minutes in 41.3-mile wave created by a power boat.
    Surfer FROM Panama, he did it in the Pacific Ocean.

    If you have a near-death experience, of course you survived. That is why it’s called near death. If you didn’t survive, it would be called a death experience.

    @Alexikakos Filming, depending on the movie, can go on anywhere from a few months to a few years. And the takes don’t have to be consecutive because they may do a certain number of takes of the same scene one day and at the end of the day when the director looks at the dailies he may not like what he sees and decides to retake the next day. This can go on throughout filming. It most likely lengthens the length of the shoot. Also, later scenes may make the particular scene out of place unless reshot to conform. There are a lot of different reasons to have to reshoot. Still its hard to fathom 2900 remakes on one scene.

    And after all that, it was just a mediocre movie.
