    Jon Arbuckle would have to get Garfield one of those Japanese “diet glasses.”

    cool! mine those asteroids. with luck he’ll make enough to break even or go broke. but if he’s successful the world price of gold plummits and financial systems based on gold collapse. maybe the total value remains the same but we can pave roads with it.

    It wouldn’t be cost effective to mine for anything on an asteroid.

    If they’re like meteors they would be mostly iron, nickel and dirt.

    The only way asteroid mining would be cost-effective is if there was a shortage of minerals on Terra, justifying the short- and long-term expenses involved in the activity. Check back in 200 years (if humanity still exists then) to see if we’ve started doing that yet.

    @Zyreenesque

    Reminds me of an old Twilight Zone episode where gold thieves awake from suspended animation in the future to find that water is more precious then their loot.

    I read about this. The plan to is to tow the asteroids into orbit about the moon and then mine them. Too costly for one thing and just thing if one gets lost and hits Earth.

    “Diet glasses” also called a magnifying glass.
    Pull the asteroid into earth orbit, mine and smelt it in space to build more ships to mine more asteroids.

    If they lost they could never pay off.

    On Sundays, the illustration is “landscape”; on the Dailies the illustration is “portrait”. My guess is that it is simply a matter of available size for the illustration.

    The on line strip can be any size but the sizes used here are close to the size printed in the paper.
