Harley, you’re a climate change denier. You have no right to call anyone else an idiot.

There are no experts in infectious disease who advocate blocking all travel from Africa. You’re listening to right-wing pundits and politicians, who are as clueless and reactionary on this as they are on everything from the economy to the environment. It wouldn’t help, and it would do vast damage, like cutting government hiring during a recession. It doesn’t help that we haven’t had a Surgeon General for over a year, since the NRA (who have absolute control over congress) is blocking all nominations.

Actually, they’re not going to do “nothing.” McConnell has pledged that if he gets in power, he’ll shut down the government again. That’s something.

So blocking travel for the 99.999% of travelers who DON’T have ebola makes sense, to you. But requiring background checks on gun purchasers to keep hundreds of felons from buying guns is an intolerable infringement of rights? And it’s okay to block 300,000 people from voting in Wisconsin because one person voted twice in Indiana? Conservative “principles” are extremely dependent on circumstances, and can’t be bothered by details like expert opinions, statistics, experts in the field, and even basic facts.

Except when it comes to contraception, or the ability to vote. Then the government should interfere to block your options.

And incidentally, Ebola is not what this cartoon is about. It’s about the cowardly decision of Democratic candidates to run from Obama, who is (as Paul Krugman correctly noted) one of the most successful presidents of the modern age.

Because every expert has pointed out quite lucidly that blocking commercial flights will have no effect except destroying those countries economies and making it impossible for doctors and aid workers to get there. I realize that conservatives have stopped listening to expert advice on everything from climate change to the economy, but there are grownups in the world, like Obama and the CDC, who do.

Oh, please. It’s not partisan in the least to note that income inequality is at an all-time high (well, since before 1929), and even according to the Wall Street Journal, the rich getting literally ALL of the benefits of the recovery while the middle class gets a pay cut does a lot of damage to the economy. When middle-class Americans can’t buy stuff, the economy gets worse. And you can’t blame Obama — every single proposal he’s made to help the middle class has been blocked by the Republicans. Except for the stimulus, which was crucial to saving us from depression, and the tax hike on the over $400,000 set, which is largely responsible for the huge reduction in the deficit; this is still very much a Republican economy.

Yep. And in Kansas, Brownback lowered the income taxes on the rich, and paid for it (partly) by raising taxes on the poor. Anyone who votes for conservative Republicans needs to start listening less to what they say and looking more at what they do.

Michelle is in better shape than most first ladies. She’s got the guns. Bad food kills more kids in America than Isis and ebola combined.
