I was in the Marines from ‘63-’67 and never was home for Christmas. Didn’t really bother me. The best Christmas was when I was training in Japan. It was very festive.

In the mid ‘50s, Horseshoe taps were popular among teenage boys. When I was about 13 I wore those and Continental taps. Those fit on the toe of the shoe. That fad didn’t last very long. Very noisy in church and school. We thought we were bad.

I don’t get the bush reference. If I was Santa, I’d fill the stockings with Brussels Sprouts. Hideous little things.

I retired last year at 69 and didn’t get a penny of severance pay. The reason was because I voluntarily left. Or quit. If I had been laid off, I would have gotten one weeks pay for every year I worked. I volunteered for a lay-off, but didn’t get it. My co-workers did have a cake and took up a collection for me. That was very thoughtful of them. The company didn’t do squat.
