“Hanky Panky” is not from the Dick Tracy movie. It’s from Madonna’s album “I’m Breathless: Music from and Inspired by the Film Dick Tracy”. That album has most of the original songs written for the film that were performed by Madonna, as well as some new material co-written by Madonna (which is what “Hanky Panky” is).

While it’s true that the Pinkertons did later develop a reputation as Union busters, they had a long, notable career before that. The agency protected Abraham Lincoln when he received death threats in the run-up to his first inauguration, for example. The agency’s later activities shouldn’t overshadow or invalidate the achievements of those who worked for it before their less scrupulous actions, or their agents who later went on to do good works in other capacities.

Why does Tracy even need a defense attorney anyway? He hasn’t been accused of any crime. At worst, it’s been implicated that he’s demonstrated poor professional judgement by having a romantic encounter with a known felon. Still, nothing illegal.

Re: “Murder is My Business” – Sgt. Jim Doherty, the strip’s technical adviser and a writer in his own right, wrote a short story about Tracy entitled “Murder is My HOBBY”. It was available to read on the PLAINCLOTHES website before Curtis & Staton got the job producing “Dick Tracy”.

Google has obtained the newspaper micorfilm/fiche archives of various libraries from around the world, and makes them available to read online for free. Many of these papers carried the Dick Tracy comic strip, so strips that have not yet been re-printed (say, from 1985-2001) can be read in that way.A lot of the archives are missing a day here and there, and the scans aren’t always great, and it can be time-consuming, but it’s better than nothing.

A few things to note:St. Hilarie’s hospital is apparently named after Mrs. Joe Staton.Junior was also present at the birth of his baby sister Bonnie (though he was driving the car rather than assisting with the delivery).Today is Dick and Tess’ wedding anniversary. They tied the knot in a surprise ceremony on Christmas Eve of 1949. That’s 65 years!

It’s been shown a few times. Jim Doherty made reference to couple, and it happened during Kilian’s run as well. The second “Chameleon” was shown arriving in court in a costume that raised questions about whether he could be accurately identified and he walked.Similarly, Dr. Beau Tox appeared in court after being disfigured by acid. The witnesses couldn’t positively identify him (even though one of them was the one that had thrown the acid), and he was released on that technicality.Still waiting to see if he returns as the new Haf-and-Haf…

@Ray TolerYou’re mistaken. The Nightmare Machine was a separate storyline. It was invented by Dr. Morpheus and was used to affect peoples’ dreams. Tracy’s dreams were invaded and he faced gunfighter versions of Flattop and the Brow in a Wild West setting. The storyline was later collected and released as a mass market paperback, around the time of the 1990 feature film.

Junior’s fondness for R.E.M. was established during the Nightmare Machine storyline in 1989.
