yes… i remember my father making the radical addition to our old Ford by adding a turn signal to the steering column—so he didn’t have to always hold his arm out the window. And I remember doing my dissertation on punch cards, and running my Fortran program at HMC until it timed out…

when I worked as an editor many decades ago, 2 spaces after the period was the standard, but I learned then that newspapers had a 1-space standard (to save space, presumably—didn’t help readability).

I bought a mulching lawnmower, which nicely chops up grass and leaves and returns it all in itty-bitty pieces to the soil. Works well for me (and we get a lot of leaves, mostly maples with the occasional sycamore, here!)

" radical Socialists like Michelle Obama [who hates white people] or communists like Bernie." wow—who do you get your news from? those are pretty extreme characterizations.

yes, the noise, and many tennis players hate the competition, as in some localities less-used tennis courts are being relined—or double-lined—for pickleball.

LOTS of former (many of them older and no longer able to play tennis) tennis players now enjoying Pickleball. I expect that many different forms of activity may lead to injury, but I wonder how much the increased activity offsets the potential amount of injury?—and perhaps lessens injury that might occur by virtue of being more active?

it’s true that guns aren’t the cause of criminal behavior—criminals are. But don’t you think that present-day guns, unlike those in some use—but rarely criminal use—in 1776, can be thought of as enablers of more-intense criminal behavior? — that without guns, there likely wouldn’t be as many shootings, for instance? Criminals will still commit crimes, but they probably wouldn’t be as violent, and probably not result in death quite so often? just wondering…

one of my favorite changes in meaning from KJV times is how the word ‘let’ today means “allow”, but in 2 Thess 2:7 it was used to mean “hinder” or keep from happening. super-obscure, but interesting from a linguistic perspective.
