    I used my Commodore 64 to play games (It was better than my Atari 2600) and do some word processing and print on my dot-matrix printer with the continuous feed paper. The C-64 had replaced the Timex-Sinclair 1000 that I had before. Some of my friends had IBM PC Juniors with 300- (or maybe even 1200-) baud dial up modems and were able to connect with various BBSs (Bulletin Board Systems). Good times.
