As a boy our family went to the Catholic church every Sunday and I went to the Catholic school in the basement. The only thing I remember in elementary school was the Nuns constantly smacking my hand with a ruler. My parents finally put me in public school to prevent hand damage. Those penguins were rough………….

From the frying pan into the fire. What a strangely diabolical little mind Teena has sometimes. It’s delightful.

Yes, going to a Catholic school growing up was pretty tough with the nuns. They also loved to smack you with the yardstick in the behind for the littlest things - like going an extra page ahead in the workbook…. by the time I was in 3rd grade, there were lay teachers in the school. But some of them were just as tough…

I like this strip. Glad I found it.

Sounds like Catholics have it tough though.

My crime in kindergarten in a Catholic school was picking up my pencil and writing with my left hand. When I told my mother that they told me I couldn’t write with my left hand, she put me in public school the next year.

Never liked church or Sunday school. Had better things to do. But until I was of age or mom was too busy I and my brothers had to go.

Just say NO. At 10, I learned to slip out early on Sunday and head down to the pond, where I’d climb a tree, listen to the wind in the leaves, and watch the ducks paddle by. THAT was my church, not getting dressed up in a monkey suit to be lectured at like the grownups in a ‘Peanuts’ cartoon. Got in trouble later on for ditching Church, but it was worth it, and they gave up trying to indoctrinate me (besides, the old man snuck out to play golf and didn’t wanna be a hypocrite).

I feel sorry for the toddlers, because I can’t imagine Jeri being the best babysitter.

It wasn’t just Catholic schools that employed vicious teachers. My Dad went to public school, and one teacher laid his knuckles open with a ruler once. At least his parents weren’t prone to violence, so he didn’t get more when he got home…

Goodness, sounds like a lot of people have some pretty awful memories of school…

Love the last line, and Teena’s face as she says it.
