And B.F. is going along with them — why?

While motion makes it easier to notice something, much of the time in the field, it’s looking for what doesn’t belong. The dark lizard on a rock. The patch of bright color in a tree that turns out to be a bird.
.
sound is pretty important, though. When I look for lizards on the desert, the scrabbling sound of claws under a rock is often the first sign. I’ve occasionally seen red-breasted nuthatches, but that “beep-beep-beep” they make is very common. (Unfortunately, seems like most people of my age group blew their hearing with loud music, and they can’t even pick up loud bird calls.)

I always wondered where Alan Grant was pulling that particular “fact” from. You can’t exactly judge visual acuity based on fossils, other than judging basic binocular vision and directional range.

In the sequel The Lost World, Michael Chrichton made fun of that line, something to the effect of, ‘Probably some idiot who thinks T-Rex’s visual acuity is based on motion’.
I believe the new Land of the Lost movie had fun riffing on preconceptions about T-Rex.

B.F. will decide he doesn’t want to join this “pack” and go back to his mailman – pretty soon, I hope…

Yeah, it’s a bummer and you can tell the little dog isn’t used to being around “scoundrel” dogs. :)
