I wonder how many cases have been blown by reporters? Maybe it’s a small percentage.

    Actually, it’s a big percentage.
A few months back I was reading a book entitled “Justice USA”. The book was written in the 1960s / 1970s in the aftermath of numerous high-profile cases that were either compromised or made needlessly difficult by the media.
Not only did the author look at the infamous Sam Shepard case (in which the media so biased the local jury pool that the case was thrown out after Dr. Shepard spent a decade behind bars), they also looked at dozens of other cases dating as far back as the 1910s. In all of them, the media either tainted the jury pool by printing material that should only have come out at trial – if at all – or heaped additional trauma on the involved parties by dragging out details that should have been kept private (such as a case in which a teenage girl was accused of murdering her mother’s boyfriend; the boyfriend was a predator and the girl was defending herself. by the time the case was over, half the nation knew the details).
