Modern life has increased the number of allergies or at least the people with them.

Spit in his transfat when he’s not looking. Include a spare loose tooth if you’re feeling generous.

I feel sorry for the kid with the helmet and leash; just because his parents are too lazy to teach him important things, like how to stay safe, is no reason to treat him like a retarded dog.

It would be interesting to know if transfats and ordinary saturated fats are actually bad.
By the 1990s, studies had been done that indicated that polyunsaturated fats reduced both HDL and LDL, and that monounsaturates raised HDL and lowered LDL.
No study yet has indicated what transfats do. Experiments with coconut oil and cocoa butter showed no changes in cholestrol.
It would be nice if some university did a study with a large group and measured the HDL and LDL after eating transfats.
One wonders if it will be like salt. Scientific American went back over several dozen studies and in 2011 published an article called “Time to End the War on Salt” because the people with the highest salt intake consistently had lower blood pressure. The exact opposite of what had been assumed. And indeed, that was the problem: it was simply assumed to be a problem when the data was inconclusive.

Now parents are getting charged with felony neglect for letting their 7 year old walk a block to the park by themselves.

I can relate to most of these as a kid except flying on a plane by myself. I didn’t take my first plane trip until my early 20s.

This rings very TRUE. How sad! Is Cartoon-Boy going all philosophical on us?

Darwin is okay, and I certainly believe in the power of Evolution, but not for me or my children.
Learning, adapting and surviving is just too much of a risk.
This may doom my offspring to failure and oblivion, but I should be gone by then, so, no biggie.

Exactly and people wonder why parents are so over-protective. They have no choice or end up on a police blotter.

The reason kids have so many allergies and get sick so often these days is because parents are so paranoid about germs! The introduction of anti-bacterial EVERYTHING has led to a society that fears LIFE. Let the child eat food that has hit the floor, get dirt in his mouth, eat a piece of dog food and get scratched up on the playground….it’s the germs that our body fights that make us healthy in the end
