Where I live, the buses, light rail and such are expensive and useless unless your poor and you live in the dumps along the routes.
Example, it takes me 12 minutes to drive to work and 12 minutes to drive home. If I take the bus, I probably have to wait approximately 12 minutes for it to even show up. They sometimes come early, sometimes late and never on time.
The bus then would take me to a light rail station west, where I’d then get off and wait for the train…it then takes me up a 5 miles where I get off and wait for another bus and ride it to the nearest stop to my work which is approximately a 1.75 mile walk to my work from there.
It takes me around 2 and a half hours each way using mass transit. We have NO subways here either.
So I could ride mass transit for 5 hours a day, or use my car and drive for less than 30 minutes round trip.
Ironically the farther I go away from home the better mass transit is, I can make it 120 miles away in less time.
Oh I should mention that a monthly pass it more than I pay for gas to drive my car around…I only fill it up once and I only go to the grocery store and work, no where else.
