A new form of “chain letter” has become prevalent on Facebook and other social networking sites. For example, they may start with “If you love [support, believe in, etc.] your mother [sister, teacher, nurse, etc.] share this.” They often rely on guilt to ensure propagation (If you don’t share then you must not love your mother!). I always wonder who starts these and why. Some are probably heartfelt but I can imagine some are put out there almost as a game to see how quickly a message spreads.

It’s been many years since I’ve received a chain letter in the snail-mail. Interesting point about Facebook though – I think it’s the same motivation as the traditional chain letters.

It has been years since I have gotten personal snail mail(other than the occasional greeting card on b’day or Christmas). Everything else is bills, official notices and junk.

“The fault, dear Brutus, lies not in our chain letters but in ourselves.”

I just ignore them and move on. Problem solved.

I remember a while ago a Facebook page called Brandon Cyrus used to post those asinine attention seeking photos and images that appealed to the over-entitled. Until a YouTuber made a strongly addressed video that made the page come under fire and shutdown.

I haven’t on Facebook in a while, so I’m not sure how prevalent it still is. None the less, really shows the capacity of public manipulation and rebellion.
