If ever there is an iconic comic strip, it is Peanuts. What began in the funny pages in 1950 has developed into an enduring classic. Whether you're persnickety like Lucy, a philosopher like Linus, a joyous Flying Ace like Snoopy, or a lovable underdog like Charlie Brown, there is something to touch your heart or make you laugh in Peanuts.

Why does he love to imagine he has been shot down by Red Baron, instead of himself shooting down many red barons?

Because deep down Snoopy is a pacifist.

Notice that in the last panel Snoopy uses a speech balloon instead of the thought bubble his dialogue is usually in. This suggests he actually spoke the words out loud. I believe, though, that this was actually an error on Schulz’s part. I noticed it in 1966 when this first ran and watched to see if it was repeated. I don’t think it ever was.

Also, this first time he was shot down the doghouse is not riddled with bullet holes. Thus begins the most iconic sequence in the history of comics. Stay tuned, gang.

It actually sounded like “Woof Woof, Grrr”. Luckily, we had the translation.

Maybe Snoopy can take on the Blue Max next? Or the Orange Baron?
