If ever there is an iconic comic strip, it is Peanuts. What began in the funny pages in 1950 has developed into an enduring classic. Whether you're persnickety like Lucy, a philosopher like Linus, a joyous Flying Ace like Snoopy, or a lovable underdog like Charlie Brown, there is something to touch your heart or make you laugh in Peanuts.

Soon, the mound will be covered with Charlie Brown’s scattered clothes after another one of his pitches gets nailed by a batter.

Does the peak of Charlie Brown’s cap have face the same way all the time like Mickey Mouse’s ears do? Just wondered. Probably have too much time on my hands.

Where does the horsehide come in? I’ve seen references to it in other Peanuts strips. I know that “pigskin” means “football”, but—horsehide?

Look, The artist may be only confident drawing baseball caps viewed from the right! How about some understanding.

It’s easier to draw.
Similar to Mickey Mouse’s ears being permanently side by side and Popeye’s pipe being on the opposite side of his mouth!

Horsehide refers to the baseball because the leather cover on the baseball (which is now usually made of cowhide) used to be made of horsehide. Horsehide was the cover of choice for decades, as it was less prone to stretching than cowhide. This was necessary in part because in the early days, they tried to play the entire game with a single ball, or as few as possible. That became moot in the 1920s, but horsehide continued to be used until the 1980s or so, when horsehide became prohibitively expensive and cowhide was finally adopted as the standard cover for a baseball. It’s time for the whole gang to get together and mow, weed and get the field ready for the season. PLAY BALL! God, I hate baseball. Can’t wait for football season.

DANDELIONS?
jessegooddoggy said, about 1 year ago
WHY are dandelions considered weeds rather than wildflowers? Oh wait, could Monsanto/Scotts/DuPont have some multimillion dollar interest in killing off little yellow flowers
gmforde said, about 1 year ago
And hope (aka dandelions) springs eternal once again. Weeds are undesirable plants that kill whatever beauty you manage to eke out of your garden. Dandelions are weeds that kill your lawn, then add to your allergic misery. lol
