Lucy kneels on the ground near her baseball mitt. She is looking at two cans that are connected via a string. Charlie Brown stands atop the pitcher's mound looking to his left in confusion.

As Lucy walks up to him carrying the two cans, he asks,"What's this?" She replies,"This is a homemade telephone...put it around your neck...."

She speaks into the can saying,"We need better communication between the pticher's mound and right-field."

She leaves one of the cans with Charlie Brown and lengthens out the string as she takes the other can with her. She says,"Now, if you need any advice on what to pitch or anything like that, you can just call me."

She stands afar with the can to her mouth continuing,"I'll be right here...call me any time..."

He goes to pitch the ball and says,"Maybe she has something..." He pitches the ball and concludes,"All the professional teams use telephones."

As the ball is hit with a pow, it flies by him and he flips up in the air. Lucy screams as the string from the can is tightened and she yanked through the air.

Lucy and Charlie Brown lie in a heap atop the pitcher's mound, tangled up in the string. He says,"Hello? Hello! Hello?" She says,"The number you have reached is not in service....please make sure you have dialed correctly..."

Why would he wear it instead of setting it beside him anyway? The can and string “phones” worked via vibration, which would be eliminated if the string is wrapped around the person.
