"I think cartoonists should be like burrs under the saddle of some egomaniac, kind of gnawing away every day," says two-time Pulitzer Prize winner Paul Szep. "I think the public likes cartoons because it gives them a vicarious pleasure that they normally can't get in any other way."

Petraeus cleaned out his office and put his junk in a box.

Is that a genitalia reference? Reverse the order and he cleans out his office after putting his ‘junk’ in a ‘box’.

Why? she was a American writer. His biographer. What was she going to do? write about how the CIA kept him from her one cold winter night? Too bad he wasn’t the governor of South Carolina. Apparently you can have foreign mistresses and have the state finance your affair and still stay in office.

There are lots of lower level CIA people who, like Petraeus, could compromise the US were they engaged in an affair. No org can allow the top guy to flaunt the rules that the underlings are expected to uphold.

The real peril of being a “hero” in America. You’re stuck on a pedastal that no one can maintain just so the little people can feel better about themselves when they pity you as you fall.

Bill Clinton was re-elected when he did it.

Bill’s philandering was not a security risk.

“Bill’s philandering was not a security risk.”
.
What security risk? Was she hacking his computer? Was she given access to his secret stash of classified documents?
.
What? Is someone going to blackmail the head of the CIA? “If you don’t do what I say, I’ll tell the…….oof, ouch, hey, who the heck are you guys? How’d … OW! how’d you find me?”
.
“We’re the CIA idjit! NSA has a record of every keystoke of every computer that every had your fingerprints on it! They have tape of every cell phone conversation you’ve ever made!”
.
“Oh… where are we going?”
.
“Doesn’t matter, you’re not coming back!”
.
No security risk. However, this is the sort of thing that tends to distract the eye from the ball, and we expect the head of the CIA to be watching the ball at all times!
.
That’s why he had to go!

The security risk would be if she was able to obtain sensitive classified information, which appears to be a possibility, but the information is sketchy in this area. My point was regarding Bill Clinton – Monica was not a security risk.

I agree with both of your points. But I don’t see “security risk” as the reason Petreaus needed to resign. If he did allow her access to classifed docs then it should be the hoosegow for the both of them, at Gitmo for her.
