Oliphant forgot the Make the Rules as you Go Read Hotel and the Democrats only saloon. Republicans only control the house not the Senate.

As long as the Senate continues to “agree” that 60 votes are needed to pass, the party with 41 members controls the Senate. Alternatively, and probably just as likely, NO ONE controls the Senate. Regardless, the important thing is that nothing will ever get done, at a great cost to the taxpayer. Waste and fraud in government? Look no further than Congress.

    Okay, a few questions:
    1) Where’s the little penguin guy (or whatever) with his comment?
    2) “Senateville – A dump for the Ages [what else is written there]”?
    3) Directly behind “Mama’s House of Ill Repute”: Is that “The Ore House”?

The Republicans work one week on, two weeks off. And they still cause much in the way of problems.

Harry Reid has the poker skills of Pee-Wee Herman.

Which is twice the insult it normally is, because he supposedly represents Nevada.

I don’t get a clear message from this, but I love the drawing!

41 “lock-step” Senate Republicans can now hold hostage the 59% who are trying to get something done. We, the voters, need to force elimination of the “phantom” filibuster, the “silent” filibuster and “personal hold” and require a “talking” filibuster! A talking filibuster means that the filibuster bound Senator would have to come to the floor and actually talk on the issue. Maybe then the voters, already angry at congressional gridlock, would be even more fed up if forced to watch live filibusters tying up the Senate for weeks on end, and that might be deterrent enough to force a move to cut off debate and have a majority vote.

This is the way it worked recently in the Texas legislature (although Governor Perry called the legislature back for a special session to re-introduce the measure):
    Wendy Davis Filibuster
    .
And Harry Reid is threatening to revamp the procedure (petitions online):
    Nuclear Option
    .
    [I’ve signed one such petition.]

Don’t mess with the filibuster. It’s one of congress’s more constructive limit to bad government.

I think a “talking filibuster” is not too much to ask of folks who feel they have a reason to block every piece of legislation that comes up. If it was ok to force Wendy Davis to stand without touching anything for her entire filibuster, why do those poor excuses for men in Washington get to phone in their request for one?
