Hi GoComics readers,
Many of you have expressed curiosity and even concern about the comic hiatus for Pat Oliphant's drawings. We wanted to share that Pat is doing well, in good health, but simply on vacation. As soon as when we have an update on the date of his next drawing, we'll share the news here and via social media.
We have wonderful readers. This is an example of the impact that an artist and their work can have on lives and we will continue to value that relationship with you. Thank you.

Called "the most influential cartoonist now working" by The New York Times, Pat Oliphant occupies a unique position among today’s editorial cartoonists: Widely considered the dean of the profession, he is one of its sharpest, most daring practitioners.

Add first-shooter video games and movie plots that glorify assault weapons and you’ll have the recipe to help restore some semblance of sanity to our culture.

Easy to do. Just change the size of the bullets and make the existing shells illegal!
.
Trade in your old gun for one of the new ones. the ones with finger print reader triggers and GPS shutdowns built into them.
.
The bullets that have RFID tags inside them that can disable the bullet when they are in public gathering places.

Wow, it must have taken hours to draw all the weapons in this cartoon. They far exceed the number of weapons that will be destroyed because of this incident.

or should be because of this incident. It was not the gun. It was a crazy person and his enabling mother!

Yes, we will always have people who become unhinged & do terrible things. Unless you think we need to start locking up every shy, awkward kid out there, our best option is to make the guns available less lethal.
Look at the record of mass shootings, & you’ll find the body count goes up when the shooter has a semi-automatic rifle with a large clip.

Guys before we send the police door to door to do the above lets remember that the worst school murder had nothing to do with guns but explosives way back in the 1920s, in the Bath School Bombing.

Australia had a voluntary buy-back program, and it seemed to have worked. I don’t think anybody is advocating that we “send the police door to door”….

“Unless you think we need to start locking up every shy, awkward kid out there, our best option is to make the guns available less lethal.”
Make the available guns less lethal, make the lethal guns (if that’s not a redundancy) less available. Either/or (preferably both).
Between the extremes of “Everything, all the time” and “Nothing, ever” there’s got to be middle ground, but when you take absolutism as your position you have to expect absolutism in response.

Kringle, that’s just too reasonable! Most Americans agree with this line of thought.

Guys, I like Oliphant as much as anybody, but here he is – regretably – wrong, the number of purchases for semi-autos has gone UP since the shooting, probably because everybody knows that legislation is unavoidable.

After 2009 (Scary Muslim Black Marxist Anti-Gun President) and mid-2012 (the same, only LOUDER) the weapon manufacturers are really bringing in the dough. I even thought: what if all these shootings are STAGED by the weapons guys in order to increase their sales. But that’s too cynical, right? Right???

Sadly, drawing one gun would likely exceed the number of weapons that will be destroyed because of this incident.

“Just across the highway from Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut, in a stately white building with an American flag flying out front, is the headquarters of the United States’ premiere industry association for gun retailers.
It’s not the consumer-focused National Rifle Association. The National Shooting Sports Foundation has kept a lower profile over the years, but is likely the second-most-powerful force for firearms use in the country."

In Newtown, CT…
“The police department logged more than 50 gunfire complaints this year through July, double the number for all of 2011, records show. Some of the complaints raised another issue. Gun enthusiasts here, as elsewhere in the country, have taken to loading their targets with an explosive called Tannerite, which detonates when bullets strike it, sending shock waves afield. A mixture of ammonium nitrate and aluminum powder, Tannerite is legal in Connecticut, but safety concerns led Maryland this year to ban it.
Mr. Faxon, the police commission member, who is a lawyer, said he wrote the new ordinance, which would have imposed additional constraints on shooting, including limited hours, and a requirement that any target shooting range, and the firearms that would be used there, be approved by the chief of police to make sure they were safe. This was no liberal putsch, Mr. Faxon said; three of the five commission members are Republicans, and two members are police officers.
“I’ve hunted for many years, but the police department was getting complaints of shooting in the morning, in the evening, and of people shooting at propane gas tanks just to see them explode,” Mr. Faxon said."

WOW!
.
The Pro Murderer ers got their talking points TODAY! The Bath School Disaster!
.
Where a guy who was unhappy with the election results (he lost) took out his anger on the school.
.
And the angry White Men of the TEA Party cite this incident!
.
Doesn’t an alarm go of in your head somewhere jack75287? Doesn’t a voice tell you, “He’s like me?”
.
And what does it say about you that you are defending a murderer because there was a worse murderer nearly 100 years ago?
.
Why are you Pro Murderer?
.
Why are you Pro Evil?
