It’s only because English is such a non-phonetical language.

Not so ! The problem is that nobody teaches phonetics anymore. The nuns taught me well…in the mid-fifties !

My German teacher said that English was the hardest language she had to learn. No doubt because of its irregularities.

Homonyms confuse some people on internet chat boards. Seems they can’t tell the difference between there, their and they’re, for example. And then there are those who use “then” when the correct word is “than”. But one of my major peeves is when people say “rediculous”. Simple typos I can forgive (I’ve made a few myself), but the “e” is nowhere near the correct letter “i”. And I don’t buy the “that’s how people talk” excuse. Okay, end of rant.

At creators.com, Ellen has a “fit”.

I agree that if we knew at the beginning of education the extent of everything we will learn, it would be entirely too daunting to begin.

and I’m still learning a lot (although most of it is pop nonsense such as differences between Starwars and Trek).

And in today’s strip, I’d still wear those platform stilletos, even though I’m 76 (because I’m just 5’ tall).

And what about those who can’t (or won’t) make the distinction between ‘to’ and ‘too’? And ‘lose’ and ‘loose’? Those two in particular drive me insane.
