    Perils of a full-time writer. I know: I can’t GIVE away my self-published novel: “The Promise of Bisibi.”

    @Arye Uygur

    I tried Googling the title to see what it was about; and all I found were your comments in GoComics.

    Perhaps that’s why he hasn’t sold any…

    Usually people start out part time and keep their day job. If they sell enough then they might become full time.

    No, she wrote on her own time. She was too poor to have anything to sell like that lady does.

    In today’s comic, Rose makes an aromatic comment. The GoComics strip hits home with me, since I’ve never had the guts to quit my day job(s) and never sold any of my great American short mystery stories….

    WOW, my life. I am retired, still teaching, just published first children’s book. It probably won’t win awards and my part is not going to make me rich. So yes, I have sold a couple of dolls.

    And the meaning of “Don’t quit your day job” becomes very clear.

    Kind of a bummer that neither the rerun nor the new strip today has anything to do with children.

    Two years fairly evenly divided between biomedical lab research and pizza delivery told me that my place in science was in distribution rather than production, which meant teaching, writing, or librarianship. As a librarian I don’t have to control a classroom; I get a steady salary; and I still get to teach and write.

    I’m thinking that it seems like there would be a market for a book on how to spot a closet case, for the straight looking for a mate. The book could consist of drawings and anthropological descriptions of behavior.

    The first chapter would delve into why it’s important to hold out for a straight in the first place and not to fall entirely for looks. A straight’s going to be passionate for the opposite gender. Then the following chapters can be on how to spot a closet case at a glance or through evaluation. Just thinking…

    My series “Shades of Grey” – four titles so far (not self-published) – has been tainted by someone publishing “Fifty etc etc” … Mine are mystery thrillers, first published seven years ago, but sales have been hit, so they are about to be re-titled.

    @Mai Griffin

    Well, at least you seem to know how to write. Good for you!
