Milk is good until it’s sour. Then it’s “sour milk” and can be used for cooking (like buttermilk). Besides, milk and butter can be frozen. I buy it when it’s on sale and store it in my freezer. How in the world did we manage to figure out what to eat before “expiration” dates???
