I like this kid. :) He also reminds us that there are plenty of things you can get for free.

The librarians weren’t that friendly at my local library, especially to the male gender. Males wouldn’t be able to feel comfortable just sitting around reading there, or at a computer, like you can at a Barnes and Noble or most other libraries. I’ve never seen a library like it before or since. My local library is designed to be an enclave for feminist leaning women with a concentration of radical feminist literature, and loads of knitting and gardening books. They don’t have any automotive books, for example, unless you own a ’73 Vega. The library itself is thought of mostly as a jobs program for the women working there. As a kid, it would have been great to have had a library that had books, and that a boy would have not felt persecuted in.

That bites. Now most libraries are making each branch have different types of books depending on the local area. I really don’t like it because everything I want to read I have to request online. Not much book browsing inside the library (except for the crappy collection of magazines) but I do occasionally get a notice that I have a dozen books waiting for me on the hold shelf. I miss the ambience of the library and the bookstore. You’re right. Barnes and Noble has great ambience, coffee, a cafe and comfy chairs. Worth the trip just for that :)

My son and his wife took my 2 year old granddaughter to a pet store to see the dogs and cats and other animals. It was air conditioned and it was free (unlike the local zoo) :) The baby had a blast!

Hmmm, that is clever. Let them advertise all they want. We ain’t buying.

That stinks! If it makes you feel any better, I had to check out some books for a school project on abortion and could see the male librarian stiffen.

Other than that, my local libraries are good. You just need to know which library to go to for different things.
