American chocolate always tastes like that cheap stuff we used to get in advent calendars. Maybe I have been trying the wrong stuff you can’t beat Swiss chocolate.

Some American-made chocolate is stellar. TCHO and Scharffen Berger are wonderful. It’s the mass-produced stuff like Hershey that taste like sand. Except for M&Ms.

Ah she finally sees the light (or tastes the chocolate!) Fortunately we are getting more American chocolate makers who know how to do it right. Sadly, you usually have to go to their stores to get the good stuff!

The fresh, local, artisan-made chocolates are going to the the very best. Chocolate is best fresh with simple ingredients.

    nboady,

you beat me to it. Candy, gum, anything based on sugar—it’s all Mexico now.

It doesn’t matter where it comes from, chocolate can be good or bad or in-between. I’ve had excellent American chocolate and less-that-great Belgian chocolate. But in American we tend to import the good stuff over the not-so-good. (Lindt Chile!)

Too much milk chocolate here. Very little dark chocolate. Not even with nuts. The semi-sweets are the best for eating or cooking.

Most American candy companies do still make their candies here in the US. Not everything is made in China, thank goodness.

I was fortunate to have tasted Belgian chocolates and they are good and expensive. But worth the money if you have it.
