   Particularly those who pride themselves on being “blunt” or “upfront” with others. I had a friend who used to start her most devastating criticisms with, “I’m not being funny, but…” and you knew that what came next would indeed not be funny—just rude, uncalled-for and hurtful.

    I, too, have had the deer into the car problem (although many years ago). Unfortunately, I had no warning – it just leaped in front of me from the pines on the side of the road.
    I learned my lesson re driving at night in deer country and have never forgotten it in all the years since.

    Where I grew up, everyone knew at least 2 people who had hit a deer. Or rather, been hit by one.
