Wouldn’t the kids all have to be exactly the same weight?
ben_david said, 17 days ago
Not exactly. If they’re kinda close, they’ll go for a while. And just the ones on the ends will get the biggest headaches.

Would work better with five kids. Get that cool three hitting two action with the middle one going both ways.
ronaldmundy said, 17 days ago
not if the biggest kids are on each end……kinetics.
hmmmm, chances of motion produced by forces, or
just a slow day in the park remembering pinched fingers
and swing chains. nice going Wiley!
grapfhics said, 17 days ago
we used to try that with traditionally hung swings.
lots of swops and angles to get the kid on the next swing

If kids were magnetic you could build a gaussian gun.
Richard said, 17 days ago
I will bet it is delightful to hear their little heads knocking together.
Wiley, is there no end to your genius!

Well, the kids had better watch their hands, cause that could hurt if they’re not careful.
Potrzebie said, 17 days ago
wait until they try their hands at a playground gyroscope!

Hey, GoComics – please stop putting “rollover” ads in the margins. Click ads are fine, I can decide when to visit them. Rollover ads like the Toyota video are incredibly annoying. I had to kill it three times while I read today’s comic. (BTW, we have two Toyotas, replacements for our previous two Toyotas. I have nothing against the company, but I HATE rollover ads.)

They wouldn’t have to be the same weight. Heavier kids just wouldn’t move as fast.

Hahahaha! Wiley, that is absolutely hilarious, I love it! Always love starting my mornings with your comics.

This physical experiment is a nice introduction to the first lectures in physics when these kids enter at the M.I.T.
BTW, I agree with you, Hintzy.

Science and humor. Sure can’t beat that combination.

My four-year-old would be thrilled. (At least I assume so…right now he’s sorting through his blocks trying to find “four columns for his library,” so I can’t ask.)

The kids in the middle don’t actually get to go anywhere. Their sighs of disappointment can be heard all over Kendall Square.
Joe Allen Doty said, 17 days ago
Wiley Miller wrote and drew this strip like come folks might imagine swings designed for children at an M.I.T. pre-school.
Of course, he knows they would NOT do such a thing and that’s why it’s the subject of a “Non Sequitur” strip today.

Teaches kids that if you try to remain in the middle, life, and critics will continue to come at you from both sides. If you stay left or right, you can attack from only one direction, and will ignore what’s outside your “attack zone”.

Now that would be a cool swing. of course that would be only cool for the kids on the ends. But still. Hmmmmm I will need to work on this for an Invention.

@dtut Get Firefox and Adblock Plus. I didn’t even realize there were advertisments on this page, let alone something that annoying.
WoodEye said, 17 days ago
Depauwler beat me to it. I got the tip about Adblock Plus from Allan the Canadian security guard and I thank him silently every day. Thanks Allan!

For some reason I keep thinking of the classic cartoon - was it a Gary Larsen? - with the student at the School for the Gifted pushing on the door marked Pull. But I can’t twist it to fit here.
