Nick Anderson of the Houston Chronicle is an avowed independent who covers politics and contemporary cultural issues in a way that connects with readers. His loose, idiosyncratic style carries with it an unconventional message that has broad appeal. "I approach my work with a healthy skepticism for the ideological extremists littering our political landscape," explains Anderson.

Why do other states even bother to vote if Ohio gets to select the President?

Do not believe the Chuck Todd’s of America. This is a tight race and tied according to Gallup.

You can go from “news” site to “news” site and get different, and opposite, results. They and exit polls should be curtailed."
I have to agree with you on this one, especially for election night reporting. Some people on the west cost see the the result tally hour after hour, feel the election has already been decided and give up their own right to vote. I, for one, can wait till morning to see the results.

The ONLY poll that should EVER matter is the one where we pull the levers or push the buttons to cast our votes. All others are by definition unimportant- not to mention unreliable and subject to spin- and should be ignored!

In California we do feel our vote for the president will not matter. However, there are many other important items on the ballot.
Yes, the electoral college must go. It keeps the United States broken up into individual republics. We are one nation, indivisible.

I really feel for the poor voters of Ohio — bombarded 24/7 with relentless political ads and politicians of both parties pandering to them in the most obsequious ways. It’s another example of how the obsolescent electoral college unduly influences how we select our presidents.

If New Jersey or New York were in play for their electoral votes, politicians of both parties would be paying a lot more attention to their post-Sandy plight and promise to rebuild a lot faster.

The most important job Ohio has is overlooked: get rid of John Boehner for the good of the nation! Bring him back to his home tanning booth and leave him there!

Thing is Ohio reflects the Nation better then any other state. I have heard many complaints about the electoral college and I think it is one of the most brilliant things the Founding fathers ever put into play. Thing is President should be the LEAST powerful person in your political representation. Your representative power should be from the local up! The fact that right now Ohio is a battle state means the system is working! If it was up to mob rules then Ohio and other states would NEVER see a President. NY and Cal. would be able to throw around the weight of their votes and the fly over states would be left to fend for them self.
The only reason Ohio is a battle ground state is that is does represent most of America. You have the mix of America voting in the one state and it is balanced enough that it has cities vs, subburges vs county. And those votes are still working against each other. It is the polls that have made it more of a battle ground then anything. And just because these polls say this and that does not mean a thing.
