In this State, hand held phones and texting are prohibited while driving. It is a secondary offense, so you can not be stopped for doing it unless there is another offense. The law is a joke, no teeth. Has not had the slightest impact since its introduction. The official state drivers handbook also states that you should have both hands on the steering wheel at all times. Ha!

We ban texting, but hands free- just say it’s a “business call”. BAN HAND HELD, restrict “hands free”, and do the same as drunks, inattention = jail!

Perhaps, if they read their morning comics on their cell phones while driving to work . . .

I thought this one was particularly unfunny. The comments from the peanut gallery didn’t help. Now I’ll go take my antidepressants.

Never had an accident where I hit something, I’ve been hit 11 times while not moving, twice by drunks. Investigated hundreds of accidents, and most were caused by “inattention” by drivers, only one by actual “excessive speed”. Failure to yield right of way is the number one collision cause, and cell phones have really increased the number. A kid chasing a loose ball into the street is just like a driver on a cell phone, but not surrounded by a steel cage.

agreed… texting, browsing, dialing… all need to be banned while driving. Sure you may be able to do both at once, but the risk is way too great. I realized this long ago when I was texting while driving… almost ran into somebody… this was way before it was a law… Haven’t done it since.. I have pulled over to text somebody back or to look at google maps… and that’s all it takes… just pull over out of traffic. You are not only risking YOUR life.
