^Nonsense. Ryan has moved the focus from delivering specific needed services to providing specific quantities of money in the form of block grants, which can be diverted from those who need it or even reduced freely, since they have no link to actual healthcare provided and are thus entirely arbitrary. That makes them one more thing to eliminate in a budget.
Healthcare in this country costs twice what it does in the second-most-expensive country in the world (the UK), and scores around 25th in quality. Medicare and Medicaid are actually tremendously effective and efficient programs, and get higher ratings by participants than private insurance companies. If we applied Medicare to all Americans, we would almost certainly reduce the costs paid by Americans today, and greatly increase effectiveness.
But the insurance industry would suffer a reduction in profits. It’s a simple fact that we have an entire industry between us and our doctors, and that’s why it costs so d@mn much. Ryan’s plan would merely increase profits for insurance companies and reduce choices and quality health care for Americans - and introduce ANOTHER level of government. In what way does this make sense?
