When these strips first ran, people said we were ripping off ‘Calvin and Hobbes’ and I must admit…we were! And it’s not just us…other strips have ripped off ‘Calvin and Hobbes’ too! One strip I saw was called, ‘Peanuts Classics’, where a dog was pretending to be a pilot, and another called ‘Bloom County Classics’ where the cast pretended to be the cast of ‘Star Trek’. Obvious rip offs of ‘Spaceman Spiff’. Poor ‘Calvin and Hobbes’ and it’s 100% original trope. :(

Norm didn’t dump her. it was a decision made by the both of them. Apologize for what? “Sorry we both decided to go our separate ways?” “That we both lost interest in each-other at the same time?” No, what he should do is tell her how much he misses her, and that he can’t live without her. And see if she returns it. That means that they didn’t stop loving each-other they just needed time apart.

I don’t remember any Calvin & Hobbes strips where Calvin broke up with a girlfriend. Nor do I remember Calvin ever eating cereal using mustard as a substitute for milk. C&H strips did a lot of gags based on cereal but that doesn’t mean that every strip ever done after C&H is automatically ripping off C&H ideas. That’s a concept too close to “Melancholy Eliphants” for my liking.

A comic strip character eating cereal?! RIPOFF!!! A comic strip character having a space fantasy? RIPOFF!!! Oh and “Fallout 3” had A cereal called Chocolate Frosted Sugar Bombs. I don’t recall anyone getting sued over that.

Hope it was honey mustard at least.

I never really pegged Calvin and Hobbes as ‘Film Noir’ though. Aside from Watterson’s own ‘Tracer Bullet’ parodies.
