This one was misiterrupted, and we were running too late to re-draw it. It came off a LOT more violent than it was supposed to. I remember a therapist actually wrote and asked if I was feeling ok after it originally ran. Yikes!

Not to mention poor old Norm getting covered in Mercury.

She says fluorescent, but panel 1 shows the concave end and filament of an incandescent bulb…

Yeah. I don’t remember the full script, but originally they were fluorescent…like the long kind…but I don’t specify the long kind, I just said fluorescent. Most times not being specific with Mel worked wonderfully, like the background gags when Norm went to the gym, and the Demeter the greek goddess panel in the recnet Sunday strip. This is the one time can think that I should’ve been more descriptive, I guess. Still, it was worth it for the other 99% of the time. I still think that Demeter panel is amazing. :)

Bloodshed is rare in newspaper comics, even action comics like “Dick Tracy.”

Norm takes an amazing amount of abuse from Ashly. Maureen is much nicer to him.

If they were the new, mandated fluorescent bulbs, that cost $8 apiece and give you about two weeks of sickly glow before dying completely, then Ashley has the right idea.

Such a liar. They last of 2-6 years.

I’ve had CFLs in my fixtures and lamp for about a year and they haven’t burned out…
As for the violence, hey, it’s a comic strip. Just like cartoons, nothing hurts or kills. :o)
