Has to still be the 40s – men are still wearing hats when they are out and about. Women’s hairstyles and hats also look like they are from the 40s. And, of course, there are a LOT of people riding the train! I have taken a train to and from Glenwood Springs twice in the past year and there were maybe two or three people per coach!

Great color. Wonder why modern comics are so bland color wise. Thought technically things improve over time.

Like the joke about the old man who sees his wife sitting in a chair, with her back to him, in their home some distance off. He calls out I love you and gets no response. Thinking she has not heard him, he moves to within 8 feet and says it again and again gets no response. Finally he goes right up to her and says right in her ear the same words.

This time he hears her reply: Yes, for the third time, I love you too.

No, this is from the 1950s — you can see Al Smith’s signature in the bottom right corner of the last panel. (It’s in the bush.)

This may be a tad off-topic, but I saw the movie “Abbott and Costello Meet The Mummy” last night, and I just realized how similar to that duo was to Mutt and Jeff. Could M and J have been the inspiration for A and C?
