A realistic assessment is good, but sometimes the beards do all grow longer.

To eliminate capitalism, a revolutionary movement is going to have to fight – and defeat – their armed forces and overthrow their state. We have to break the shell to get to the economic core.

Nice to see my favourite twosome, Victoria and Bunnista, in a heated discussion Stephanie :)

The American Revolution began when the militias hopelessly stood up to the British Army. Their defiance encouraged the Continental Army (an arm of the Bristish Army) to join the cause. Only then did they have a chance to win.
Defeating them may not have to be violent. If they refuse to harm their own people we win.

There aren’t any revolutionaries here. To be a revolutionary you have to blow stuff up. Nothing has blown up in months. The Russians didn’t use the Molotov cocktail as a cigarette lighter. Stephanie already got Otto, Chip and his lecherous old dad out of the picture, not to mention the maid and Niko. So lets trot out some new characters and see if they can do any better. Reality and fantasy seem hard to separate on this strip anyway. Not that that is necessarily a bad thing. Get a new crew, arm them or something and “once more into the breach.” This sitting around issuing platitudes is getting tiresome.

To eliminate Capitalism is to eliminate economics. The dead grayness of Socialism doesn’t work. Neither does the burning down fire of uncontrolled Capitalism either. Why you need a hybrid of both.

For a revolution there has to be enough people that want change. With over half the country of America on welfare and a revolution will take that away from them don’t count on Americans to join. The occupy movement fell apart. Capitalism isn’t perfect but it’s the best system humans have.

The Continental Army was the army of the revolution as the army was founded by the Continental Congress. The French won the war for the colonist. The French (Lafayette) trained the Colonialists. Cornwallis surrendered at Yorktown because he was “outgunned” by the French out at sea. Cornwallis was not in a position to a fight both the Americans and the French or risk staring a war with France. Thus he surrendered. The British planned on taking the colonies back later, thus the War of 1812.

All true. But the Militias alone would have lost the war early on. The Continental Army was a professional army and gave the cause a fighting chance. No it wasn’t quite enough on its own, but it made the chance of winning possible. I don’t discount the heavy French military support as the deciding factor (also there was some Spanish and Dutch primarily financial support). I merely point out that it was a game changer.

Rubbish. Capitalism is not synonymous with economics. Marx described something called a “productive communist enterprise” basically a democratically controlled worker owned co-operatve business. The guys in Silicon Valley have been doing this for years, but capitalists simply call them “entrepreneurs”.
Check out a video lecture “Capitalism Hits the Fan” by Richard Wolff, and also his interview last week on PBS’s Moyers & Company. The first video I mentioned you can find also on Moyers’ site.
