Yes I have had it before but fortunately I have so many “irons in the fire” I write past it.

Capitalism is a necessary danger just as fire, electricity and cell division. Even though we run the risk of burning down things, electrocution and fires, chance of getting cancer. But under control they are all useful tools to keep our civilization going.

“Alternative Minimum Security”
Humans are social animals that co-operate to find food, for protection, raising infants, socialization and other reasons. One of the results of this cooperation is that we developed reciprocity. Human societies are dependent on reciprocity, or sharing. Sharing creates an “if you scratch my back I’ll scratch yours” structure of mutual dependency and co-operation.
-——————————————————————————————————————The importance of co-operation for survival is so important that it has directed our psychological evolution. For instance, Dacher Keltner’s experiments have shown that all people, everywhere, regardless of culture, instinctively understand and use the same expressions to show joy, disgust, pleasure, or any of the myriad other emotions that humans experience. This evolved ability, along with speech, has allowed us to understand each others emotions and motivations for the express purpose of communication and co-operation. Ms. McMillan and every other cartoonist in the profession rely on this very human capability to communicate what the cartoon characters are thinking and feeling.
-——————————————————————————————————————Psycho-social evolution required that people have some sense of right or wrong to enhance co-operation. The purpose of an innate moral sense is to preserve group bonding, and thus survival. The difference between “good” and “bad” behavior in a social animal such as ourselves is relatively simple. Altruistic behavior is “good”. Selfish behavior is “bad” Altruistic behavior aids survival of the group because it promotes closeness and trust within members of the band. Selfish behavior threatens the survival of the group because "[It is] about putting “me first” and that is maladaptive for social creatures like us." Paul Zak.
Oxytocin is the hormone that creates this moral sensibility. It also promotes that most unique of human abilities, empathy. Studies have shown that people with inhibited oxytocin levels are more selfish than their normal fellows. For this reason, some neuroscientists describe oxytocin as the “moral molecule”. As a side note, oxytocin is not to be confused with the drug fiend Rush Limbaugh’s favorite form of dope. His street drug of choice is oxycontin.

Mr. 49. Capitalism is a “necessary danger”. The human race has had many other economic forms through the ages. Economic forms change in response to developments in human societies. We just have been brought up to think capitalism is the best thing since sliced bread. The serfs of medieval Europe thought the same of the economic system under which they lived. Ms. McMillan is right about capitalism no longer being useful. It’s premise of constant economic growth is its Achilles heel. With the ongoing environmental collapse it has outlived its usefulness.

Capitalism is a human construct. It has no basis in nature. It is a system certain people devised at the end of the 17th century for their own benefit. Cell division is a natural process. We do need fire, at least in the northern latitudes for heat and to pre-digest most of our food everywhere. Man has used electricity for little more than a century. We got along with out it’s use for 100,000 years. We can get along without it again.

@ Ms. McMillan. You are right. There are so many concerns and no one is speaking with a single voice. That’s why the Occupy movement failed.

Look up Symbiosis. That is a form of capitalism in the act of Mutual Aid. Do something to get something and both are paid. The use of Capital is human made.
