    I can understand why the owners keep the ships constantly in use rather than maintaining and disinfecting them. The part I can’t understand is why people keep going on these things. They’re unsafe, contaminated, full of overworked, underpaid employees, and go to places where one could travel by plane, reach sooner and stay longer. It’s a mystery to me.

    Nothing but a second-rate hotel you can’t leave.

    You know, spyderred, I often make that same observation about train travel…

    And we are so thankful to you for leaving Asia alone. And also for staying back with your animals and letting us enjoy our cruising.

    Today’s cruise ships are like a container ship loaded with phone booths for occupancy. I agree with warbucks that I’d never take one.

    Hmm, I’ve been to a number of Asian countries, some quite “hostile” at the time, but found the real people still very nice, and some beautiful places, don’t understand his anger toward Asia. Which, I found Georgia (in the U.S., not the nation) the most hostile populace overall, and never want to go back there! Which, funny watching them in Atlanta today with a little snow, as back in ‘68 they had freezing temperatures and it was a total zoo with ice on the bridges, being from the west, I knew how to handle it, and folks there couldn’t figure out how I knew how t keep my car moving, and on the road!!

    But, but, but….. isn’t this representative of the ultra conservatives precious free Enterprise? Compare this totally for profit experience with that of going to a government run experience, such as a National Park! Good Heavens, I do hope that the government run National Park system never even considers being taken over by “for profit” corporations!!

    And then there is that other government run organization that seems to be able to keep literally hundreds of thousands of people at sea without all of these problems, while doing work that is far more dangerous than anything ever done on a private cruise ship. The government organization that is called the US Navy!! Perhaps the pure private cruise line interests should start to study the methods used by the Navy? This might just raise their costs, but then they could do just what such industries always do in such a case, raise the prices. I mean, taking less in profits for the common good, just could NOT ever be done, right??

    I’ve taken a few cruise trips, its like having a floating hotel take you to a destination. You never hear of the Norwegian lines breaking down or having sick ships.

    Yea, but Carival Cruises is like the “Motel 6” of cruise lines….

    You can always find joy wherever you live, but traveling to expensive, exotic places can be just a different way to suffer.
    .
    I recall a Peanuts cartoon where Snoopy is trotting back and forth with a forced smile on his muzzle, and Charlie Brown, looking stern with arms akimbo, says “If I have to go half way across town so you can frolic, then, by golly, you’re going to FROLIC !”

    @CDK

    The National Park Service does indeed hire concessionaires to service the more popular parks, but that is not having them actually run the parks themselves. The rangers themselves that provide so much of the joy of the educational experience of the parks are still governmental employees. If you have actual evidence otherwise, I would like to see the sites where it is.

    I agree these lines that stuff their ships with people and never bother to repair them are asking for trouble.

    It got back into port and all the infected passengers got off and went their way. What ever happened to coming in flying the double Q, and going into quarantine until a non-employee certified the disease under control?
