What’s truly amazing is that someone would have ‘skipcarlson’ as an avatar when commenting and think that that somehow makes his comments relevant…..

I do hope that “whats next” is true absolute, 100% campaign and campaign finance reform.
NO MORE MONEY from PACs, unions, the wealthy.
GREATLY reduced waste – a 20 day run for office, sponsored by our government..
    real debates, strictly moderated..
    no more lies.
and most radical of all – mandatory voting , with a “none of the above option” …
As to our Skip – conservatives must learn fairness and how political parties are operated.

Once again we hear from Mister “We the People”, a lone voice that claims to speak as if it, all by itself, represented some 300Million Americans. (Perhaps auditioning for a spot on Talk Radio, a la Limbaugh; or a shot at TV Commentator for Fox news?)

If that voice is so totally disgusted with, and disapproving of, today’s political scene, WHY isn’t IT busy, out running for Office, to do ITS bit to bring about change?

Or, as an old saying has it: “Talk’s cheap. It takes – money, work, effort . . . (fill in the blank for yourself) . . . to get things done.” And Mister “We the People” certainly doesn’t show much of anything “it takes” to bring about change, as he rants about politics today.

Thank you. My only addition would be that, as collateral damage, news organizations are now no longer trusted because they report the same lies that the politicians supply them with. Obviously, if more resources were spent on actually looking for facts than on whether this actress wore a bra when going to this party, we might be able to trust them more, so this is not meant to absolve the media of responsibility. But it is part of the bigger picture, and it does contribute to the public’s mistrust of anything they’re told. Next stop: Chaos. Next stop after that: revolution? Let’s hope for sanity before we get there.

    and to Adrian Snare:

Good comments. Just for consideration: ever wonder why Jesse Ventura could beat both major parties in his run for governor of Minnesota? A friend of mine who lives there told me it was “campaign finance reform”. When I told him that couldn’t be it, he told me of the Minnesota difference: they didn’t try to restrict how much a candidate could recieve, as that is impossible. They restricted the candidate as to how much he/she could SPEND. They knew how much TV time, radio, print ads cost, and there was a maximum. More contributions than you can spend? Save it for the next campaign, donate to a political colleague who’s struggling for campaign cash, whatever. But once you’ve spent the maximum, you’re done. Worth thinking about, eh?

I do enjoy Mister “We the People”, as his “gloom and doom” views are so typical of the superficiality that seems to dominate area of politics today. The notion of future Chaos, if our politicians don’t behave exactly the same way – maybe even wear the same coats, wigs, breeches (?) – as did the Founding Fathers when debating, is probably one of the most outstanding of the trivialities he elevates to great prominence.

Let’s just veto the 21st Century – and, of course, all those intervening cultural changes as well – and . . . Voila! Start all over again; and all the various and sundry “evils” will . . . ?

At least, Adrian Snare proposed something SUBSTANTIVE, by way of actual PROGRAM for Reform. But then again, that brings us back to the little matter of talk being cheap, and what “it takes” to make things happen in REALITY.

And, speaking of “juvenile behavior”, I really wonder if Mister “We the People” has ever read Arthur Schlesinger’s work, THE AGE OF JACKSON. Or, for that matter, ever studied the actual history of the early years in Congress, when a Southern “Gentleman” beat a fellow Legislator to death with his cane, RIGHT IN THE CHAMBER, because of an “insult”.

Of course, it wasn’t done on TV; and it took several days for the various and sundry newspapers to publish the engravings, along with the story – since photography wasn’t universally available on I-phones in those days. But, for myself, I think killing one’s political opponent for no good reason other than “personal insult” is at least somewhat closer to “Chaos” than laughing at a man during a debate.

My source tells me that the money was not allowed to go into the candidate’s personal funds. Beyond that, he doesn’t know enough to be comfortable sharing.

Who here has defended Mr. Weiner?

While Weiner is a total “weenie”, and no party should claim him, a more “interesting” tracing by the NSA, and revelation to the general public would be the real story behind Dick and Lynne Cheney’s “blind trusts” while he was in office, and well, while she was on the board at Lockheed securing all those government contracts for defense equipment, that doesn’t work!
