I’m curious about something…who was the first President to have a Minority member of the cabinet, and the first to have a Woman on his cabinet?
I bet that most of the Presidential Cabinet members in the last several Hundred years have been old White Guys…

A lot of talk was made about Bush II appointing Colin Powell, and then Condolezza Rice. Powell, alas for him, is an old-school Republican. Rice . . . proves that being the first and being the best are not the same!

I believe that Francis Perkins, Secretary of Labor under FDR, was the first woman in the cabinet. She later taught at Cornell.

On this day in 1966, President Lyndon B. Johnson appointed the first African-American cabinet member, making Robert C. Weaver head of the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).
…. an’ even earlier -
President Franklin D. Roosevelt on March 4, 1933 nominated Frances Perkins of New York to be Secretary of Labor. She was confirmed in this position and became the first woman appointed to a Cabinet position. She was the longest serving Labor secretary, serving for 12 years between 1933 and 1945.
She was also the very first woman ever to enter the Presidential Line of Succession.

The republican outrage is fake. In the 113th Congress only 4% of the republican members are women. Over 50% of the population is women, I think there should be a lot more qualified women for congressional seats. I guess maybe too many of them are too smart to be republicans. And let’s see, an “uppity black man” selecting (not finalized by the way) all white men is racism? Only the republicans can muster such faux outrage.

Why are so many of hs Cabinet Members leaving him?
masterskrain said, 4 months ago
So it only took 150 years, more or less, from Washington to FDR to have something other then Old White Guys on the cabinet…
And Howgozit, if I don’t know something, I at least ADMIT IT, rather then make up some insane “Fact” like Rush and Billow and a LOT of the people who make comments on here do!

Problem for the Republicans is their fake outrage now means they can be held to their own false standards. The vast bulk of women & minorities on Capital Hill are Democrats. Why is that, if conservatives are so concerned about diversity?
