The real elephant should be; what about America makes us so violent, and yet any time some “foreigners” bring violence to us, the most violent among us call for scapegoats to punish?

As the “media” demanded the President come up with a response, and apparently solution, they didn’t dare call up the elephant today: the folks at No Rational Alternative.

I’d say a more appropriate animal analogy here is a dead horse, since mid-October.

I don’t think that’s a GOP elephant, it’s “the elephant in the room”. The main stream media doesn’t want to ask the hard questions.

Yeah, but, isn’t it normally the “800 pound gorilla” in the room? I’m confused, linguistically and semantically…

Perhaps the day after Dubya answers for his involvement in the World Trade Center Murders?
There they were, Saudi nationals taking flight lessons in THIS country, yet Bush did nothing…

^That may take some time as he stands in line as other presidents answer for violence on their watch.
    .
Perhaps he should also have to answer for meeting objectives in Libya with zero American deaths.

but but it was spontaneous and YouTube. Nothing to do with them chanting “Obama we are Osama” just weeks before an election. Nothing to do with the flag of an enemy that is sworn to destroy us and Israel flying flags over our places of peace in their lands. And definitely nothing to do with he dead guy ala Carter, can not have that a few weeks before an election.
It is that internet Obama would like to see the UN take some part in. And the wave of military strikes just happened out of the blue on 9 11.

Both expressions are relevant. The elephant in the room alludes to “something” being so big, significant, dominant, etc that it can’t be ignored.

The 800 pound gorilla means whatever is being referred to has great dominance, strength or power.

This cartoon is drawn appropriately (for the symbol involved). It doesn’t refer to the republicans per se, it just means that Benghazi is a big issue that can’t be ignored. I explained the expressions in an earlier post.

I wonder how many questions were restricted from the interview or is Barbara Walters (ABC) that lame of a reporter?

I agree. The Benghazi debacle could be demonstrated as an 800 pound gorilla but the “elephant in the room” is more apropos because it really is a non-issue in comparison to other high-profile attacks on American installations both overseas and abroad. Both expressions could be used to illustrate this cartoon, but given that the reTHUGlicans won’t give this up the elephant has double meaning here. However I don’t think anyone except the ultras-sensitive über-nut-job conservatives even thought twice about it solely indicting the republicans. I think most rational people who know the expression “The elephant in the room,” recognized the cartoon’s metaphor for exactly that and only upon further, deeper rumination did they begin to see the double reference to the symbolization.

Given the status of the republican party the “elephant in the room” indicates irrelevance.

    Appropriate toon.

Its obvious from the ’toon, that Republicans have made the whole “Benghazi thing”; the 800 pound Twinkie in the room.

Why did the Reeps cut funding for embassy security? That’s the Mammoth in the room.
