Well, they got three moving parts and the rest is solid-state electronics. Why shouldn’t they still work?

He was most likely making reference to their automotive sector. Something which most people don’t remember because none of them are able to identify a carburetor, let alone repair one. The early Japanese cars were junk. One built by Toyota was so bad it was immediately recalled back because it immediately fell apart on California’s roads. And it wasn’t just Toyota. The other manufacturers had their share of issues. Today, it’s reversed. Now the Japanese build their stuff in the right to work states while the socialist states are building junk nobody wants. Nobody wants a Government Motors subsidized piece of junk no matter how much the government pays you to take it. Proving once again the failure of socialized unions and government run industry when forced to compete with the free market. The solution? Move production to China. Next vehicle I buy will probably be Made In Texas.

Those pocket radios, did not fit in pockets, and that was the 70s. Warbucks is talking from the late 40s through the 50s.

“Might I remind you that GM posted its best profit year ever during the time the government had shares in General Motors (2011, and was even profitable in 2010 under government ownership too).”

That is a true statement but they still had a 10 billion dollar loss to the tax payer when the government pulled out.

To the ‘toon, China merely posted an “advisory”, like we’ve done all around the world, then there’s that NORAD thing showing to F-18s trailing Santa- ALL AROUND THE WORLD!

Just another “red herring” for our chickenhawks to latch onto.

The government may have lost 10.5 billion on the sale of its stock. But the government, or in other words taxpayers, avoided much greater losses had GM simply been allowed to go belly up. "
Let us start with the 10 billion. That is we saved around 30 billion becuase the stock is over priced by the fed pumping money into the system inflating the bubble.
Now “saved” what? The other companies that went into bankrupt did not just liquidate like you are suggesting. In fact this was the 2nd bankrupt reorganization. It would have allowed the company to re do contracts with the Unions. Democrates can not have that. So Obama stepped in and gave them money to save the unions. Nothing more was saved, sorry, but almost all the other re organization could have happened with giving them the 10’s of billions! Further more the suckered, I mean secure creditor was illegally not paid over the unsecured!
I should not, but I I will also get into all the sweet haert deals with the Volts and GE. I mean our embassies over seas had a few of them with GE putting in the charges. That allowed Obama to say look green jobs..a lot of good that did Stevens and three other guys..
