We live in a world where evil things are allowed to happen. God allows evil doers to work their atrocities so when he judges them at the last day, his judgements against them will be just. The innocents who are murdered are received into God’s bosom where they will find peace and rest. For those of use who survive, our task is to find the peace of God in our hearts through forgiving the evil that was done. This does not mean that the wicked people who perpetrated this crime should go without punishment, however. Though we must forgive the wicked, our forgiveness does not rob justice from administering the punishments that are necessary consequences for these evil actions. Yes, I believe in both Christian forgiveness and in administering justice. The difference is that the follower of Christ does not find glee in seeking retribution, but does so with a measure of sadness for the souls of the wicked, and hope that they might repent of their evil acts. Yet mercy cannot rob justice.
