I don’t think you meant this to come across quite how it sounds. I hope not, anyway.

I thought Lila’s Mom was Jewish now-that She’s Menschioned it

I was really taken aback at today’s comic. It came across as hateful.

I was too, but you have to put some inflection into the remark to make it sound like the stereotypical Jewish mother. May not be hateful, but sure to cause pd itis.

Offensive. The only option is never to read this strip again. Sad to have this insight into the dispositions of the authors.

I am with train. As a Jew, I’d be offended except (a) it was funny, if you read it right and (b) I’m not someone who looks to get offended at every comment/cartoon/joke.

I heard the joke differently (and better), but I’m too lazy to type in the whole mishigas: http://www.aish.com/j/j/51477672.html

" I am a Jew. Hath not a Jew eyes? Hath not a Jew hands, organs, dimensions, senses, affections, passions? Fed with the same food, hurt with the same weapons, subject to the same diseases, healed by the same means, warmed and cooled by the same winter and summer as a Christian is? If you prick us, do we not bleed? If you tickle us, do we not laugh? If you poison us, do we not die? And if you wrong us, shall we not revenge? If we are like you in the rest, we will resemble you in that."

I think it’s a tad over the top too. But it’s OK to pick on Jews. They don’t cut of heads or blow up buildings so it’s not too dangerous. For full disclosure, I am a Christian with 25% Jewish ancestry.

It’s not intended to mean that Jews stretch the truth. It’s a joke about American Jews’ style of speech, which she is employing – which is probably what Meg is getting at. Since it’s in a reference to a comment about lying, it’s risky, but I’m certain it wasn’t intended that way. I had to stop and think about it, though, so I’d have to say that isn’t a success for me.

    Huh?
I’ll give the benefit of a doubt, but at the very least it just doesn’t work.

Boyd of all people ought to know not to make a joke with a stereotype negative statement. He must be pretty tired of them being aimed at gays.
